In his very early career, his hair was highlighted very blond, though natural looking, and was longer--the classic 1990s floppy hair. He rocked this look through his first films, including "Thelma and Louise, " "Legends of the Fall, " and "A River Runs Through It." He had the sweet, almost-innocent charm of a boy too handsome for his own good.
His most dynamic role was that of Tyler Durden in "Fight Club." This is where is famous, tousled, natural hair came from. It thankfully lasted through several other large films, like "Ocean's Eleven" and "Troy."
It even lasted through a marriage to Jennifer Aniston. These were his best hair years, excepting one unfortunate span of time when he grew a long bushy beard and long stringy hair. This was supposedly for a film, but the film never materialized.
After his divorce from Jennifer Aniston, he rapidly switched directions. Many have said that he has matured as a person and as an actor. He became a six-time father with Angelina Jolie and the couple may not be done yet. He started in political causes and Good Will projects with her.
His career matured, too, and he started playing more critically acclaimed roles, like in "The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button, " for which he was nominated for a Best Actor Oscar. His hair has likewise matured. He now sports a slightly darker, more sedately combed (yet fashionable) hairdo, often with a little goatee or mustache.
